Wairarapa Governance Review - future local government options 16 May 2012

Once the three Wairarapa district councils have discussed the report during May 2012 they will consult Wairarapa residents on any proposal for change.

Operator of the Year 2011
Councillors and staff would like to congratulate Selwyn Osborne for winning the Water Industry Operations Group Award for the 2011 year which was open to all WIOG members in the water and wastewater treatment and reticulation fields and which attracted a large number of nominations from throughout New Zealand.
The award is an acknowledgement by industry peers for outstanding performance, innovation and commitment to improvement in the water operations profession.
Selwyn was presented with this award at the recent WIOG Annual Conference in May and as part of winning the award has won an all expenses paid trip the Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) 75th Annual Victorian Water Industry Engineers and Operators Conference to be held in Bendigo Australia during September 2012.

Carterton Community Arts Council
Creative Communities Funding Grant

The Creative Communities Scheme is a relationship between Creative NZ and local authorities and supports opportunities for New Zealanders to participate in the arts in their local community. The Carterton Community Arts Council administers this scheme on behalf of the Carterton District.  Applications for the next funding round will close on Friday 25 May 2012.
Application forms and funding criteria are available from the Carterton District Council or by contacting Sandra Hayes on 06 379 4030 or can be downloaded from here.  Guidelines for applicants can be downloaded here.

Carterton Refuse and Recycling Kerbside Collection
All Kerbside Refuse and Recycling Collections on a Statutory Holiday will be carried out on the normal Monday (unless Council and Earthcare advise otherwise)
So please in future put your Bags and Recycling out on the normal day.
Collections on Labour Day Monday will be completed on Monday (not Tuesday)

Proposed waste management plan
Councils are required by legislation to have a Waste Management and Minimisation Plan for solid waste in place before July 2012. The Carterton District Council has prepared a Proposed Waste Management Plan and this is now available for public consultation before it is finalised. Please click here for more information.

Wairarapa Governance
All Councils in the Wellington Region have agreed that by the end of June 2011 each of the respective Councils would conduct a consultation process with their communities, inviting written submissions commenting on the scope, options and structures set out in the Price Waterhouse Coopers review of governance in the Wellington Region.
